Canton of Basel-Stadt

The canton of Basel-Stadt is further expanding its digital offering with the support of adesso: From now, companies can apply for and manage permits for cross-border commuters via the EasyGov application, which is available nationwide.

Challenge

Companies in Switzerland must reapply for work permits for employees from an EU/EFTA country or renew them at regular intervals.

To date, individual cantonal processes must be followed, which results in a high level of bureaucracy and negative impact on working hours and personnel costs from a company's perspective.

Solution

The connection of the Canton of Basel-Stadt to the EasyGov portal, supported by adesso, means that companies have a choice and can continue to enter and manage permit applications either via cantonal or nationwide EasyGov.

There are virtually no changes for the administration, as applications from both platforms are processed in the same specialist system in the same way.

Benefits

EasyGov makes it possible for companies with locations in several cantons in particular to fulfill their administrative tasks more easily and better. A better overview and less work are the biggest advantages.

Cantons can connect to and use the new service from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO without having to reinvent the wheel or pay for it.

Methods and applied technologies

Project coordination and documentation was carried out with the help of Atlassian Jira and Confluence. The BPMN methodology was used during the process analysis. It was developed via a cantonal eGoverment implementation, which included the establishment of a sedex adapter and a specially developed interface for data exchange as well as the expansion of a specialist application. A modular concept was used to test the software.
