Mobiliar employs almost 6,000 members of staff and is one of Switzerland’s oldest private insurance providers. Its activities include the insurance and pension business for customers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Mobiliar is using a major digitalisation initiative to press forward with its digitalisation strategy, modernise its entire system landscape and get it ready for the future via a microservices architecture. Products are being modernised, core processes are being made more efficient and digital touchpoints for customers and staff are being made more user friendly thanks to the acceleration of end-to-end digitalisation for general and life policies.
‘The scale of this digitalisation project is something we’ve never encountered before. Our team has the incredibly exciting task of automating the invoicing process for legal expenses insurance for private individuals. We have developed a code that runs through every legal expenses insurance policy – from concluding the policy on your mobile phone to the issuing of the policy, including the premium and term. The invoice is then created – an SAP system is at work behind the scenes – and printed based on this. At the same time, a document is generated that will be sent to the customer as a PDF later. We’re aiming to complete the migration over the course of this year. We divide, plan and coordinate the work we need to do to achieve our target in quarterly (currently remote) meetings involving the 500 IT experts working on the project so we can keep an eye on the entire digitalisation initiative,’ says Alexandra Windisch from adesso Austria and Scrum Master at the Mobiliar initiative, giving an insight into the project.

adesso Schweiz and adesso Austria were awarded the contract as part of a nearshoring selection process in autumn 2018. Since then, the eight-strong adesso team – a Scrum Master, six developers from adesso Austria and a quality engineer from adesso Schweiz – has been working closely with two employees from Mobiliar, a business analyst and a product owner.
To make it possible to implement this progressive project and meet its demanding requirements, SAFe, a framework for scaled agility developed by Scaled Agile Inc., was chosen as the process model. This method offers maximum flexibility and allows you to implement your project quickly, guaranteeing that it will be a success.
