What is your secret of growth?
We asked 5 questions to our Head of TI-Shore
The Lugano office opened just before the first lockdown and has been growing rapidly since then. Its success is reflected in core process projects for major companies in a wide range of industries. How exactly does TI-Shore do this? We talked to Andrea Buzzi, Head of TI-Shore.
1- From 1 (you) to 100 adessi in 3 years in Lugano. How was the journey?
The journey began in the last week of February 2020. We all will never forget those days because of the beginning of the first lockdown. But while the world was starting to lock down, I was opening our new office in Lugano and starting as employee number 1 of our branch in Ticino.
The business model was quite simple: Attract good talents in Lugano and expand the working bench of our engagements with enterprise customer in Bern, Zurich and Basel.
2- You said it yourself, the business model is simple and other companies could do it too. Why did it work out so great at adesso?
The main reason is the pragmatic “easy to deal with” culture I found at adesso, combined with the long-lasting track record with Swiss enterprise customers managed by our vertical Line of Businesses.
Within just a few months, we were able to position our new offering, an innovation and delivery center from Lugano, with Swiss champions such as Roche, PostFinance or Landis+Gyr.
Last but not least, we had a very supportive CEO and a management team that was very focused on the implementation of this strategic initiative that proved once again, that at adesso we walk the talk.
3- Ok, thanks for sharing insight about adesso’s structure and culture. How did the people support that? What was your approach to find (and keep) the right talents?
Being half “jurassien” (from Jura) and half “romano” (from Rome), I was adopted by this wonderful region so I learned that to attract talents you need a place with a high quality of life and Ticino is perfect for a good life balance.
The second key aspect is to organize and provide a great place to learn for the talents you attract. And I would emphasize “organize” since it is rarely just about the infrastructure and the financial resources you have at your disposal, but much more on how you organize your client engagement in order to give each employee time to learn from his or her colleagues.
Finally, you need interesting projects, and in this case our business model was quite beneficial, as we work for big Swiss Enterprise customers and this is the best place to find highly innovative IT projects.
4- You work with most used technology stack, why should a Swiss (or European) company work with TI-Shore?
True, we offer the most used tech stack, and this is certainly not an appealing argument for our clients itself, but they really like to work with TI-Shore because we’re able to put ourselves into their shoes. This means, that we always try to help them solve their customers’ problems and we do it having “skin in the game”, which means sharing the risk. This way of work might seem trivial at first, but it has a tremendous impact on the success of an organization like TI-Shore is.
5- And now how does the journey continue?
Honestly? We don’t know it in detail and that’s exciting. What we know for sure: we’re more than ready for what’s coming next. It’s like when you finish high-school, you’re 18 years old (we’re now an adult organisation with over 100 employees in Lugano), you’re proud of your graduation (we’re very knowledgeable and know how to tackle complex problems) and you’re – very – convinced of your means (we have a strong client portfolio), and right now you just have to decide which of our dreams will turn into reality… Anyway I’m sure, as a team, we will keep on growing together. Stay tuned! :)
