PostFinance is one of Switzerland’s leading financial institutions, with 2.7 million private and business customers and around CHF 124 billion in customer assets.
PEDA-S is PostFinance’s master data system. It is used to managed all of the company’s personal data and to provide data for peripheral systems. The aim of the PEDAS 4.0 subproject was to modernise the existing framework and migrate it into a modern application and new target infrastructure, PostFinance’s own cloud.
The aim of PEDA-S 4.0 was to fully migrate these vast amounts of data: not only to a contemporary application, but also to PostFinance’s private Kubernetes cloud at the same time. The latter is a first in the history of PostFinance – PEDA-S was the first major core application to be transferred to its own cloud successfully, making it the example to follow for other applications.
The way the migration was done was also something out of the ordinary: the countless interfaces and dependencies to the periphery systems meant that the release has to be migrated in a ‘big-bang approach’ rather than be introduced gradually. As the name suggests, PEDA-S 4.0 was successfully introduced over a release weekend and, above all, synchronously with other applications. This was only possible thanks to the intensive testing carried out by adesso and the close collaboration with PostFinance employees.
The completion of the PEDA-S 4.0 project means licence costs for the IBM framework will be saved and future changes and releases can be implemented more cost effectively and many times faster. Expansions or future implementations of new interfaces can also be carried out more efficiently. PEDA-S 4.0 is now based on the latest cutting-edge open-source frameworks, and the newly established standard makes it easier to onboard new employees. In summary, PostFinance has reached an important milestone for its digital future.
