Transformation to agile project management

The way to the agile way of working with adesso

To make processes more efficient, adesso closely accompanied and supported the customer during the transformation to agile project management: from business analysis and requirements engineering of the requirements to project management and coaching of the team in agile ways of working.

Challenge

In the past, scientific data entries were inconsistently defined and stored which resulted in extra work for team members, ambiguities, and difficulties in data discoverability, accessibility and reusability. In addition, the teams were mainly working according to the waterfall model, which created further challenges.

As such, the customer was looking for an external implementation partner for the change to the agile working world - they found it in adesso.

Solution

The goal was to store and visualize scientific data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) in a single system to help research teams make more informed decisions with less effort.

Together with the project team, we defined the broad goals and high-level planning for the project, created an agile framework, and began implementation across multiple research departments. The project was divided into three streams so that each research unit was responsible for a sub-project.

Benefits

Together with the customer, we were able to provide end users with a simplified form of data capture. This significantly improved the quality of data capture in terms of completeness and comparability. Due to a strong focus on change management in all three streams, the acceptance of the new processes in the company was increased considerably.

In addition, the Scrum framework was successfully implemented in the teams, enabling them to approach their work in a much more selfdetermined and agile manner.

Methods and applied technologies

In tandem with the technical implementation, an agile way of working was introduced throughout the project team to accommodate the department's new work strategy. A Scrum Master trained the project members as well as the stakeholders from the business and ensured that the Scrum framework was understood and implemented in a meaningful way.
